Retranslation of fictive neology from English into Spanish: An overview from the 30s until today

Everyone has, at some point in their lives, felt as if science fiction stories had been overtaken by reality; in fact, if one looks back and compares the view with what we experience in the present day, that assertion only gains further credence. Given that certain science fiction novels include inventions and technology that actually exist today… is their translation approached the same way as completely fictional ideas?
This monograph examines the retranslation into Spanish of fictive neology found in literature that was originally published prior to the so-called ‘technological and digital revolution.’ A large proportion of the analyzed neologisms were once just sheer futuristic fantasy but refer nowadays to common, daily objects.
